Kalinga State University officials showed their gesture of support for the province of Kalinga today, July 8, at the Kalinga Sports Center during the kick-off event of the 37th Cordillera Month Celebration. The event's theme, "Multiculturalism Towards Regional Autonomy and Development," emphasizes the region's ongoing commitment to the search for regional autonomy.
The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) was established following the historic Mt. Data Sipat between then-President Corazon C. Aquino and Fr. Conrado Balweg, founder and leader of the Cordillera People’s Liberation Army. This agreement led to the issuance of Executive Order 220 on July 15, 1987, creating CAR as a transitional regional set-up aimed at establishing Cordillera as an autonomous region.
Cordillera Month, celebrated annually in July, commemorates this significant history. It aims to raise awareness and active involvement among Cordillerans in promoting and advancing regional autonomy.
