Today, August 28, 2024, Kalinga State University-Dagupan Campus commemorated its 50th golden milestone at the Congressman William F. Claver Quadrangle with the theme “Honoring the Past, Celebrating Success, Embracing the Future.” The event aimed to recognize and pay tribute to the pioneers of KSU, whose hard work and dedication laid the foundation for the university's current success.
During the Thanksgiving Service, Pastor Jovito C. Garcia reflected on KSU's journey from a community college to a state university, highlighting the successes achieved along the way. In his homily, Pastor Garcia discussed the difference between "bad" and "good" success, stating, “When your position causes you to neglect your family, loved ones, and health, it is a bad success; with your position and power, please don’t abuse it. Remember your oath in the eyes of God and country, that is to SERVE.” He urged the young professionals at KSU to honor the contributions of the university's pioneers and retired employees, defining these contributions as the essence of "good" success.
Dr. James Guidangen, Dagupan Campus Administrator, warmly welcomed all attendees, with a special acknowledgment of the pioneer employees present at the event.
In his inspirational message, University President Eduardo T. Bagtang reminisced about the early days of Kalinga Community College and how it has evolved into what it is today. He emphasized the importance of honoring the university's pioneers, noting their sacrifices and dedication, often despite low pay. President Bagtang encouraged current employees to continue the hard work demonstrated by their predecessors and to help shape the future of the university. He also shared a significant update, noting that a recently filed bill aimed at strengthening Kalinga State University had passed the third reading in Congress, with hopes for it to become law soon.
Honorable City Mayor Darwin Estranero, represented by Mr. Henry Baliang, spoke about the positive impact KSU has had on local communities by providing educational opportunities, which he sees as a vital pathway to improving people's lives. Mr. Baliang also mentioned one of the city mayor’s initiatives to increase student scholarships.
Atty. Nick Alizander Basiag, represented by Mrs. Maureen Basiag, delivered the keynote address, acknowledging KSU’s role in his success. He highlighted the unique understanding and support Kalinga mentors provide, which helps students achieve their goals. He proudly identified himself as a testament to KSU's role in developing reliable, effective, and efficient nation-builders.
City Councilor Atty. Christian Wandag extended his warm greetings to Kalinga State University, commending the institution for its commitment to providing educational opportunities for students who may not have the means to pursue their studies outside the province. He also highlighted the success of numerous professionals who are proud alumni of Kalinga Community College, underscoring the university's role in shaping the future of its graduates and contributing to the community's development.
The event featured the awarding of certificates of recognition to the pioneer employees, by Mr. Nollie Boy Jerson, which was a highlight of the program.
In response, former Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Carmelita T. Ayang-ang, expressed her honor in reuniting with her colleagues who, like her, had made significant contributions to KSU’s history. She shared some of her positive experiences and the challenges faced in shaping KSU into the institution it is today.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Rodolfo Tucay Jr. thanked everyone who participated in the celebration and encouraged them to continue building on the legacy of those who laid the foundation for KSU.
