Kalinga State University to Host the 2025 11th National Social Science Congress

The Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) Executive Director, Dr. Lourdes Portus, and her team conducted an ocular visit to Kalinga State University today as part of preparations for the 11th National Social Science Congress (NSSC). The event, scheduled to take place from September 18 to 20, 2025, has been approved by the KSU Board of Regents as a flagship project through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the PSSC.

During her guesting at the KSU online radio, Dr. Portus said that the 11th NSSC will serve as a platform for social scientists and students across the Philippines to present their research and foster collaboration. It marks the continuation of a tradition that started with the PSSC hosting the 1st to 7th congresses. Subsequent events were co-hosted with regional universities, including Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas (8th Congress), Mindanao State University (9th Congress), and Silliman University (10th Congress). KSU now takes on the honor of hosting the 11th congress.

With the theme “Munting Tinig: Amplifying Children’s Voices through Social Science Research in the Philippines,” NSSC 11 will highlight research studies focusing on children. The congress will employ social science lenses and methodologies to address critical topics such as education, health, rights and protection, and development, among others.

Dr. Portus emphasized the numerous benefits of PSSC membership, including:

Research Grants: Financial support for graduate students conducting research.

Travel Assistance Programs: Subsidies for registration and accommodation for researchers presenting their work abroad.

Conference Awards: Recognition and support for outstanding research presentations.

Discounted Publications: Reduced rates for accessing research publications.

Training Programs: Specialized training opportunities, such as courses on AI and research ethics clearance.

KSU Board and University Secretary, Dr. Perfelia Buen, acknowledged her long-standing relationship with the PSSC and noted that her connection with Dr. Portus originated during the evaluation of former President Eduardo T. Bagtang’s second term as university president.
