KSU attains University-wide ISO Certification

After a rigid scrutiny and arduous process of evaluation by the SOCOTEC Certification International, the Kalinga State University was awarded the university-wide ISO 9001:2015 Certification.

The assessment process was spearheaded by the Quality Assurance Office led by Dr. Jessie Grace M. Sannadan last July 23-24, 2020. It resulted in 4 Positive Observations, 14 Opportunities for Improvement, and 2 minor non-conformities which were eventually addressed by the university after the stage 2 audit.

The certification which was issued last September 11, 2020 covers the scope of activities including Provision of Services in Higher Education (graduate and undergraduate programs); Research and Development, Extension and Training; and Administrative and Support Services. It was officially awarded by Mr. Gilmore Rivera, Operations Director of SOCOTEC last October 20, 2020 and is valid until September 10, 2023 subject to adherence to the agreed ongoing programme, successful endorsement of certification following each audit and compliance with the terms and conditions of certification.

ISO 9001 was first published in 1987 and since then has been used by organizations worldwide to show that they can offer consistently good quality products and services as well as to streamline processes and to become more efficient. Dubbed as the mother standard among all ISO standards, it serves as the basis of business process management system and lays the foundation of process and system management in an organization.

KSU underwent ISO 9001 QMS Certification in order to strengthen the confidence of its clients in the services it offers, prevent risks from occurring and to become more productive. It is also included among the physical targets under Support to Operations (STO) to be complied by the university in order to qualify in the grant of Performance-Based Bonus (PBB).

According to KSU President, Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang, the certification is a testament to KSU’s continuing commitment to its Quality Management System and ISO 9001 standard is recognized worldwide as a superb methodology for improving performance, increasing customer satisfaction, maintaining regulatory compliance and as a cost-saving vehicle. – University Information Office
