Kalinga State University (KSU) initiated a training program focused on enhancing value addition in silk production among local weavers from August 28 to 30, 2024, at the KSU - Rizal Campus in Kalinga. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen the sericulture industry in the region, particularly through the establishment of the Silk Innovation Center, which serves as a hub for silk processing and production activities.
The training commenced with the presentation of Ms. Florence Ao-wat, the President of Kinwa Ethnika, on the basic weaving techniques. The remainder of the training was dedicated to hands-on experience, allowing local participants to engage in weaving using provided equipment and showcase their first-ever woven cloth.
KSU's commitment to fostering local industries through education and training reflects its mission to promote research and extension services that are responsive to community needs. This initiative aligns with broader efforts by DOST and other partners to bolster the sericulture industry in the Cordillera region, ultimately aiming for sustainable development and economic growth.
