KSU Joins 30th Kalinga Founding Anniversary and 6th Bodong Festival Grand Kick-Off

Today’s grand kick-off of the 30th Kalinga Founding Anniversary and 6th Bodong Festival was participated by the Kalinga State University officials led by the University President, Dr. Joy Grace P. Doctor.

The program was held at the Capitol Park, Capitol Hills, Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga with the theme, “Rooted in Culture, United in Progress: LUMIN-AWA KALINGA.” The theme reflects the province’s deep respect for its rich cultural heritage while embracing unity and development. It was initiated by a thanksgiving mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Andres Malawis.

In his message, Hon. Allen Jesse C. Mangaoang, Representative of the Lone District of Kalinga, represented by Regie Wacas, highlighted Kalinga’s strong foundation in its traditions, values, and identity. “The province is known for its rich indigenous culture, particularly the practice of bodong, its traditional tattoos, indigenous music, dances, and oral literature,” Hon. Mangaoang affirmed. These elements define the resilience, wisdom, and sense of community of the Kalinga people. “Being rooted signifies the importance of preserving and honoring these traditions, ensuring that cultural heritage remains a guiding force in modern times as we see the emergence of various businesses,” he added.

Meanwhile, Hon. James S. Edduba, Provincial Governor, emphasized the importance of strengthening everyone’s love and commitment to the progress of our province. “Differences and misunderstandings may arise, but our culture binds us together. Let us strengthen the bonds of unity and continue striving for our Lumin-awa Kalinga,” Edduba added.

Governor Edduba formally declared the celebration’s opening followed by the beating of the gong by the provincial officials.

KSU president, Dr. Joy Grace P. Doctor co-chaired the Bodong Kick-off committee, while some personnel of the university served as members.
