To prepare senior high school students for their upcoming work immersion, Kalinga State University Laboratory High School (KSULHS) conducted a Work Immersion Orientation Program on January 17 at the KSU Audio-Visual room.
The program aimed to inform students about the objectives and benefits of work immersion while covering essential topics such as managing stress, workplace ethics, professional behavior, and safety protocols.
The event began with a welcome message from Mrs. Leah D. Bartolome, the KSULHS Principal, followed by a presentation from Mrs. Lynlyn Bawagan. She discussed on DepEd Order No. 30, s. 2017, and provided an overview of the work immersion program, highlighting its purpose and importance in preparing students for the professional world.
Mrs. Melowin C. Romero, the Guidance Counselor, opened the lecture series with “Managing Stress and Promoting Mental Health.” She emphasized the significance of mental well-being and shared practical stress management techniques, such as mindfulness, maintaining a healthy diet and sleep routine, and effective time management. She encouraged students to explore and adopt strategies that work best for their individual needs, stating, “It’s important to experiment and discover ways that suit your unique needs.”
The second lecture, “Workplace Ethics and Professional Behavior,” was delivered by Mrs. Rosemelinda Nalog, the Guidance Counselor at KSU- LHS. She highlighted the importance of professionalism, including proper grooming, punctuality, teamwork, and respect. She reminded students that ethics form the foundation of trust and collaboration in any organization.
Mr. Cesar D. Daladag followed with a discussion on “Safety Protocols in the Workplace.” He introduced the Japanese 5S philosophy of good housekeeping—Seiri (tidiness), Seiton (orderliness), Seiso (cleanliness), Seiketsu (standardization), and Shitsuke (discipline). He explained how these principles help maintain a safe and efficient workplace and encouraged students to practice the 5S as a daily habit.
The afternoon session began with Mr. Emerson Manuel, the Senior High School Coordinator, who led the discussion on “Industry Partnership and Collaboration.” He introduced the school’s partner institutions and work immersion venues, explaining the roles and expectations of each strand in their assigned organizations. His presentation emphasized how these partnerships offer students valuable real-world experiences.
In the next session, Ms. Hannah A. Gansori, a former KSULHS student from the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand, shared her experience, saying, "Work immersion taught me how important it is to be on time and take responsibility for my actions. It’s not always easy, but those habits really helped me build confidence and trust with the people I worked with."
Mr. Kelly Egsaen, a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) alumnus, also emphasized the value of humility and respect in the workplace. "You’ll meet people who are more experienced than you, so always stay grounded and willing to learn. Show respect to your handlers—they’re there to guide you, and building good relationships makes everything better."
In a closing remarks, Gila Mica Paguel, one of the work immersion teachers emphasized a reminder that success in work immersion—and in life—is about commitment, continuous learning, and respect for every opportunity that comes.
The program concluded with students feeling inspired and well-prepared for their work immersion journey. Equipped with essential knowledge and skills, they are now ready to make the most of this valuable experience, ensuring personal growth and professional development.
