KSU spearheads health education on exclusive breastfeeding and complimentary feeding

The College of Health and Natural Sciences in partnership with the Doctor of Philosophy in Community Development Program of the College of Advanced Studies of this university conducted a seminar on exclusive breastfeeding and complimentary feeding for healthy children and well community at Brgy. Dilag, Tabuk City, Kalinga last December 20, 2023.

Attended by a total of 80 participants, the said event aims to emphasize the importance of active community participation in ensuring that proper nourishment is provided to children ages zero to 59 months old and that exclusive breastfeeding has a big impact on the nutrition of the baby as they grow older.

Topics during the seminar include Handwashing and Oral Care and Maternal and Newborn Care-Exclusive Breastfeeding Education. Additionally, the distribution of learning and hygiene kits and office supplies was facilitated by the graduate students together with Dr. Marlita Quesada, the project proponent. The identified recipients of food packs were also informed that their children will receive food packs for 3 consecutive days in support to the Nutrition Program of Barangay Dilag to be facilitated by the barangay health care team.

With the success of the event, Brgy. Kagawad on Health Hon. Reynaldo Manao expressed his gratitude to the whole team for choosing their barangay as their extension community because they really are in need of this services. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of nutrition, operation timing, deworming activities, and vitamin supplementation as barangay activities to aid in reducing malnutrition.
