Languages Department Boosts Partner School's JOURNey

The Department of Languages continues its partnership with Cudal National High School with its implementation of an intensive mentoring workshop for the school's student-journalists, as part of its Journalism Education for All (JEFA)Extension Program.

The specific project titled JOURNey: A Campus Journalism Mentoring Schedule for the Journalists of Cudal National High School (Phase 3) was conducted on January 16-17 and January 28 at the Alumni Center.

According to Dr. Ruth Ladwingon, the program leader, the JOURNey Mentoring Program is a one-on-one writing tutorial with the identified student-journalists of Cudal National High School aimed at providing an avenue for the writers to practice and enhance their writing skills in preparation of press conferences, and the publication of a school paper.

For this year's JOURNey session, Cudal NHS sent 18 participants who are assigned to specific journalism fields and were given writing activities as their preparation for the Division Schools Press Conference scheduled on January 29.

The Journalism Education for All (JEFA) was launched in 2022 through a signed Memorandum of Agreement between KSU and Cudal NHS.

Set in three phases, the program contributed to the performance of Cudal NHS in the division and regional schools press conferences.

“We experienced to top the division level of the school paper contest during the first year of JEFA, and consistently brought qualifiers to the regional level among our individual contestants. Last year, our Kabakawan's news page qualified to the national press conference because it bagged the 3rd place during the RSPC,” shared Ruby Daguasi, one of the advisers of Cudal NHS.

Compared to previous years, Cudal NHS boast of a complete set of individual writer-contestants in the different fields of journalism this year.

Other projects for implementation include a journalism seminar for interested student-journalists and also providing assistance in the production of the Baruwasi and Kabakawan, theofficial student publications of Cudal NHS in English and Filipino, respectively.
