In a significant move to advance global citizenship education, the Philippine Normal University (PNU) and Kalinga State University (KSU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a renewal of formal partnership between the two esteemed institutions. The signing ceremony, held today, was attended by PNU President Dr. Bert J. Tuga and KSU Vice President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Joy Grace P. Doctor and Director for International Affairs, Dr. Pinky Gas-ib.
The partnership is aimed at fostering mutual development and cooperation through the implementation of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) programs, facilitated by the Global Citizenship Education Cooperation Centre Philippines (GCC Philippines). The collaboration will see KSU contribute its expertise as a regional hub for the development and implementation of these programs, reinforcing the commitment of both universities to promote international understanding and global citizenship.
The MoU outlines several areas of cooperation between PNU and KSU, focusing on the successful implementation of the project, which will be called “The Philippine GCED Network – GCC Regional Hubs.” This initiative will serve as a framework for collaboration on various fronts like policy development, best practices and initiatives reporting and knowledge exchange.
It is recalled that KSU was Chosen as the Regional Hub for GCED 2022-2023 and now the MOU is renewed and remained in effect for three (3) years until December 2027.
The partnership between PNU and KSU represents a significant step towards greater global engagement and the promotion of global citizenship. By leveraging their combined resources and expertise, both universities aim to create educational opportunities that transcend national borders and prepare students to become informed, responsible citizens of the world.
As the Philippine GCED Network – GCC Regional Hubs project moves forward, the collaboration between Philippine Normal University and Kalinga State University will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and development of global citizenship education in the Philippines and beyond.
GCC Philippines is a partnership between PNU and the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) under the guidance of UNESCO.
