Kalinga State University Hosts Regional Higher Education Press Conference 2024: Advancing AI and Ethics in Campus Journalism

With the theme, “AI and Ethics: Shaping the Future of Campus Journalism in the Digital Age”, KSU is hosting a Regional Higher Education Press Conference 2024 from February 28 to March 1, 2024.

Today’s opening program was highlighted with the presentation of the rationale and objectives of the press conference by Ms. Marie Joy Garming, the adviser of the university’s publication, The Earthline, the reading of the mechanics and guidelines by Ms. Karen Laking, the Adviser of the Mountain Collegian and the recitation of the Journalists’ Creed by all the participants, symbolizing their dedication to journalistic principles.

In her welcome remarks, Dr. Marilou Adora, Vice President for Academics and Student Development encouraged everyone to work together to shape the demands of campus journalism.

In his message, Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang, University President, represented by Dr. Romualdo U. Wacas, the Chief Administrative Officer, emphasized on empowering the campus journalists in navigating the digital frontier with confidence and conscience. “Let us commit ourselves in fostering a culture of ethical journalism that embraces the possibilities of AI while upholding the timeless values of integrity and truth telling.”, he added.

The formal declaration of the 2024 Regional Higher Education Press Conference was done by Dr. Mary Joyce Wangiwang, Director for student Development Services and Placement Services.

Student journalists from the state universities and colleges in the Cordillera Administrative Region will be competing and these are Kalinga State University, Benguet State University, Kings College of the Philippines, Divine College of Bangued, Ifugao State University, Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, St Louis College of Bulanao, Baguio Central University and Apayao State College.

This event signifies KSU's dedication to advancing the discourse on AI and ethics in journalism, setting a precedent for future endeavors in the field, as this is the first time that the university hosts regional press conference.
